What it is…

Annotations are definitions of dialogue including slang terms, colloquialisms, famous persons or events, double meanings, puns and other idiomatic or obscure references needing clarification for foreign audiences. These definitions are added directly to the final script underneath the dialogue.

What it’s used for…

Annotations are used in the translation process to aid in keeping the true meaning of the reference or joke.
